Chattakari

Malayalm | Romantic Drama | 13 September 2012

Julie, the spirited daughter of an Anglo-Indian engine driver, finds herself drawn to Sasi, the brother of her best friend Usha from a rigid Hindu Warrier family. What begins as an innocent romance soon leads to an unplanned pregnancy, throwing Julie into a harsh battle against societal prejudice. Isolated and judged, she must fight for her dignity and the future of her unborn child. Set in 1970s Kerala, the story powerfully exposes the cruelty of a society still shackled by taboos around inter-caste love and premarital pregnancy—issues that, heartbreakingly, continue to echo even today.

This is a remake of the 1974 classic, written by Thoppil Bhasi based on Pamman’s acclaimed novel, was directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan, Santosh’s father.
