The narrative revolves around Revathi (Menaka), who arrives in the city seeking employment and housing. She crosses paths with Shyam (Shankar), an aspiring singer, and together they pretend to be a married couple to secure accommodation. Meanwhile, Gopalakrishnan (Mohanlal), a cunning electronics salesman, mistakes Revathi for the daughter of wealthy businessman Ravunni Menon (Nedumudi Venu). Seizing the opportunity, Revathi plays along to secure a job, leading to a series of misunderstandings. As identities are mistaken and relationships entangle, comedic chaos ensues, culminating in a humorous unravelling of the truth.​

Its innovative blend of humor and intricate plotting set a new standard for Malayalam comedies and inspired a wave of similar films in the mid-1980s. It was directorial debut for Priyadarshan and M.G Sreekumar as Playback Singer.
